What is a Novoton?
Novoton is a certificate of ownership of 1 tonne of negative emission, achieved by the removal of a tonne of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere using at least one of both nature and technology based methods.
Every year we are releasing approximately 40 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Our earth is heating up. There is already enough carbon dioxide in our atmosphere to pull the temperature of the earth north of 1.5 degree C over pre-industrial levels. There is absolutely no time & we must act fast. We need to quickly reduce the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere by removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as quickly as possible. Technology based solutions are fast but expensive, beyond commercial viability for many businesses. Nature based solutions are affordable but slow and will not server the purpose due to its low rate of carbon dioxide removal . None of the solutions can alone take us to net-zero.

A Novoton is much more than just a certificate of ownership of a tonne of negative emission. We have created the Novoton to make an impact by accelerating the development of a carbon removal ecosystem by helping carbon removal technologies scale simultaneously, and in the process help the world reach net-zero in a timely manner.
A Novoton is a transferable token or a certificate, that provides the holder, ownership of a tonne of negative emission or in other words, the credit of removing one tonne (1 Tonne) of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, as a step towards reversing or mitigating climate change.
A Novoton is generated when a tonne of carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere and sequestered by Novonanmek, using not one but more than one carbon removal and sequestration methods, at least one of which is a technology-based method.

Novotons are generated by Novonanmek but can be transferred from Novonanmek to an emitting company, an intermediary (e.g., an agent or a bank) or an Individual and also from an emitting company, an intermediary or an individual to another, thus transferring the ownership of the negative emission from one entity to another.
