Hub Only Pipeline Topology (HOPT)

Carbon Dioxide Transportation Framework for Public Good

HOPT is an infrastructure revolution that will save the emitting companies from the tyranny of CO2 transportation pipelines by freeing them from the network itself

How HOPT Works?

  • In the Hub-Only Pipeline Topology (HOPT), carbon dioxide is captured in solid form at multiple emitters within an industrial cluster and transported to a shared central regional regeneration hub, using ordinary transport, not CO2 pipelines thereby disconnecting them from the CO2 transportation pipeline network.

  • At the hub, the solid sorbent is thermally regenerated—releasing pure COâ‚‚ gas for compression and transportation — while the regenerated sorbent is returned to the emitters for reuse.

  • Because only the hubs handle gaseous COâ‚‚, the national network requires pipelines connecting approximately only the hubs (approximately 150 across India) instead of thousands of individual emitters, reducing total pipeline length by more than 60%.

  • Emitters are thus relieved from on-site COâ‚‚ management, as carbon is captured, stored, and moved safely in solid form.

Instead of connecting 4000 emitters across the nation, HOPT will connect only 150 hubs thereby having

✅ 60% fewer pipelines
✅ 96% fewer compression stations
✅ ₹12–15 lakh crore in national savings
✅ 8–10 million long-term jobs

Why Hub Only Pipeline Topology (HOPT) is a national framework for public good?

The Hub-Only Pipeline Topology (HOPT), the Generation IV Carbon Capture (Gen4CC) Framework, and the HySORB™ system together represent a transformative, India-born solution to industrial decarbonization. Designed specifically for the country’s dispersed, high-SOâ‚‚ emission landscape, these three innovations form a complete ecosystem for carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) that is cost-effective, inclusive, and sustainable.

Beyond its technological ingenuity, HOPT–Gen4CC–HySORB™ stands as a national public-good project — one that unites industry, strengthens the economy, promotes employment, advances indigenous innovation, and places India at the forefront of global climate leadership.

1. Industry Integration: A National Network for Unity

HOPT–Gen4CC creates a framework for industrial integration akin to national integration.
By linking over 4,000 emitters through 150 regional carbon hubs, the system connects nearly every major industry — power, cement, steel, refinery, and fertilizer — into a shared carbon management network.

Each company, large or small, becomes part of a collective ecosystem contributing to national decarbonization. This framework transforms isolated emission points into coordinated hubs of sustainability, strengthening both economic and social cohesion.

“As railways connected India in the 19th century, HOPT connects industries in the 21st — uniting the nation’s industrial base into one climate-resilient grid.”

2. Employment and Skill Creation: A Century of Employment Opportunities

The deployment of 150 regeneration hubs and thousands of capture units will catalyze a multi-generational employment wave.

Estimated job creation over the next 100 years:

  • Direct jobs: ~2.5–3 million (manufacturing, construction, operation of hubs, logistics, and maintenance)

  • Indirect jobs: ~6–8 million (materials, transport, carbon product processing, R&D, and digital MRV)

  • Total employment potential: 8–10 million jobs nationwide over a century

This network will foster a new class of green-skilled professionals — from carbon technicians and sorbent chemists to carbon-credit analysts and logistics managers — creating a long-term, self-sustaining workforce for the green economy.

3. Economic Growth and National Prosperity

HOPT–Gen4CC–HySORB™ will directly enhance India’s economy through:

  • ₹12–15 lakh crore in infrastructure savings versus conventional CCUS.

  • Increased industrial efficiency by reducing parasitic loads and reusing waste heat.

  • Creation of new industries in sorbent manufacture, CaCO₃ utilization, and carbon-credit trading.

  • Carbon revenue streams through verified credits under Article 6 and voluntary markets.

  • Domestic reinvestment of green capital, ensuring that climate finance circulates within the Indian economy.

By turning waste emissions into value-added materials, this system transforms environmental responsibility into economic opportunity.

4. Atmanirbhar Bharat: Self-Reliance and Indigenous Innovation

The HOPT–Gen4CC ecosystem is a fully Indian solution — conceptualized, engineered, and manufacturable domestically.

All major components — capture reactors, calciners, sorbents, MRV sensors, and logistics systems — can be produced using Indian resources and expertise.
This aligns directly with the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India missions by:

  • Eliminating dependence on imported amines or foreign CCUS technologies.

  • Creating an exportable model for other Global South nations.

  • Ensuring that India’s carbon transition strengthens its domestic manufacturing base.

This is not just an environmental initiative — it is an industrial sovereignty mission.

5. Technology Development: Uniting Academia, Industry, and Startups

The Gen4CC Framework establishes a national platform for innovation that connects:

  • Universities (for fundamental research and materials science),

  • Startups (for rapid prototyping and deployment), and

  • Research institutions (for pilot-scale validation and standardization).

This ecosystem fosters India’s first open-source industrial R&D network, ensuring that CCUS technologies evolve collaboratively and inclusively.
By defining standardized national design criteria, Gen4CC ensures that every new technology — like HySORB™ — fits seamlessly into the national carbon infrastructure.

6. Health Benefits: Cleaner Air and Public Well-Being

HOPT–Gen4CC–HySORB™ will yield immediate co-benefits for public health:

  • Nationwide SOâ‚‚ reduction >70%, improving air quality and reducing respiratory diseases.

  • Cleaner industrial zones, as existing FGDs are repurposed into dual capture units.

  • Reduced acid rain and particulate formation, leading to healthier soil and water systems.

  • Improved urban air index, directly benefiting millions living near industrial clusters.

By tackling both COâ‚‚ and SOâ‚‚ simultaneously, HySORB™ delivers climate and health justice together.

7. Global Recognition: India as a Climate Leader

HOPT–Gen4CC–HySORB™ is more than a technology — it is a spectacle of systemic innovation. It positions India as the architect of a new global CCUS model — decentralized, hub-centric, and SOâ‚‚-tolerant — perfectly suited for the Global South. Just as India led the world in digital public goods (UPI, Aadhaar), it can now lead in climate public goods — by offering a replicable model to nations in Asia, Africa, and Latin America facing similar emission and infrastructure realities.

8. Additional Public-Good Dimensions

  • Infrastructure Optimization: Uses existing road and rail networks for solid transport, avoiding new land acquisition.

  • Carbon Democracy: Enables even small and medium industries to participate in national decarbonization.

  • Education and Awareness: Creates curriculum pathways for “Carbon Engineering” in technical institutes.

  • Digital MRV Infrastructure: Builds a transparent, verifiable carbon-accounting network accessible to all stakeholders.

  • Long-Term Resilience: Supports India’s Net Zero 2070 commitment through sustainable, scalable means.

9. Vision Statement

HOP-Gen4CC is not merely a carbon-capture project — it is a nation-building framework. It unites industries like a new digital rail, creates millions of jobs, protects public health, strengthens self-reliance, and places India at the center of the global climate economy.
It is India’s first climate infrastructure for the public good — designed for the people, by the people, and for the planet.
